Hey everyone. I’m needing good antivirus and antispyware that doesn’t use up a lot of system resources, is good at detecting and removing viruses, spyware, adware, trojans, keyloggers, rootkits, and all that other stuff. I currently have these tools: ZoneAlarm Security Suite, ThreatFire, Windows Defender, Ad-Aware 2007, Advanced WindowsCare V2 Personal, CCleaner, RegCure, Spybot – Search & Destroy, SpywareBlaster, TuneUp Utilities 2008, and lastly Zappit!. The problem is I know I don’t need all those tools for my computer to keep it free from the threats of the internet, so I’m asking you for your help so I can uninstall most of those program for something better, and more efficient. I need it to work with Windows XP, and like I said above need the program, or programs to work well. I’m also looking for something to fix my registry other than RegCure. Thanks very much for all your help.

P.S. Please do not suggest Norton products, it uses too many of my system resources, thanks again.

there are several antivirus and anitspyware available in market,,,,,,,
if u dont want norton products
then
use macafee, avast, quick heal, etc.
these are also good powerful antivirus packages
but buy original one.

And do I need an anti-malware?

I have the following programs on my computer (it is running slow. I may have overdone it.) I don’t even know what they all do.

Norton (came with my computer)
AdAware
Avira AntiVir
AVG
ThreatFire
CCleaner
Glary Utilities
Smart Defrag
KeyScrambler
Spybot – Search & Destroy 1.6

I only want to use free stuff too. So what do I need and what should I uninstall?
I was thinking about uninstalling Norton (because it’s only free for a couple more months), and using Zone Alarm as my firewall.

Norton and McAfee suck. If you don’t agree with that, don’t answer my question. I think the AVG Free Edition is just great for my purposes – low profile, daily updates, not a system hog, effective, and easy to use.
I’m looking for an anti-spyware/anti-adware free utility for home use that’s similar in benefits – not a system hog, easy, updates, free. I would have gone with the companion to AVG (ewido) but it;s not free.

I have been a fan of keeping my PC utilities up to date. Usually I just buy the new version of Norton, uninstall the older version, and install the new one. But this time I’m thinking about just renewing my subscription instead of running to ‘Best Buy’ and buying the new version. Is there any reason to buy the new version or am I better off just renewing?

I’m currently using a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop, OS Windows Vista Home Premium and its protection consists of McAfee 7.2 and Webroot Spy Sweeper, the latter’s subscription expiring.

My desktop PC is a Pentium 4 clone w/ 1GB RAM, OS Windows XP with a tandem protection of AVG and Avast! programs. Both antivirus programs run side-by-side and provides great protection; where one prog can’t detect a malware/virus the other detects and eliminates it. I also use Norton 2006 Utilities for repairing registries damaged by trojans/viruses.

However, Vista is whole new ballgame for me and previous experiences with McAfee in the past were not too good; McAfee now seems to be efficient. I’d appreciate some light shed on the question above so that I can provide maximum protection for the laptop (getting the laptop busted by viruses/trojans/malware sucks and I don’t want to go through the hassle of having to repeatedly make reparations on it).

you should not run two antivrius programs. If you mean anti spyware, then try either AVG or Ad-aware, both are free

AVG…I don’t trust any programs that require another program to fully uninstall=norton.

Just give it time, like leave it on for a while, thats happened to me before. But if it doesn’t work, then uninstall, and re-install. I hope your using 2008 or 2009 cause the past versions SLOW your PC down ALOT.

You don’t want to have more than 1 anti-virus on your computer (they tend to fight, and make a mess of things)

I don’t know what Glary Utilities are,

Ccleaner is a good utility as well, I would get it (I also have spybot and ad-aware)

If you have Norton, don’t get avast.

I just downloaded norton utilities last night and cleaned up all the free space, fixed any problems it found, defragmented and cleaned up the start up programs. I have downloaded Symantec Removal Utility File Version 2008.0.1.19. That is what Norton said to use for removal of older versions of Norton. It will not work either.

2001 is too old to remove with that tool. Go into the registry and delete every key with Norton and Symantec listed.
