Question by lucy: How Easy Is Data Recovery & Cost.?
Ive got the blue screen of death ` unmountable_boot_volume. Been intouch with tech support & they took me through some steps, but still got the blue screen.
As Ive got lot of important infor (ie family photos) that I dont want to loose, which foolishly didnt back up. They told me that as they do not deal with it, I need to find someone who can recover the data from the hardrive.

My Q are:
Can any1 recommen 1 in the Brighton(Uk) area?

How much does it cost?

What is the success rate of recoverying my pictures?

Also when stuff is recovered from the hardrive, is Everything` recovered? ie deleted pictures ect. coz I dont want all of that.

And do they store it on cds?

Sorry for so many Q.s, Im not at all it literate.

your best bet is Ontrack. They looked at a drive at a company that I was on-site at and the charge was £75 but they got the data back.

A lot depends on how much that data is worth to you as this price was over 5 years ago.

You can get them out and see what you want to charge you.

Come on guys the boot sectors screwed how are you going to read anything on it, In Dos you could use Fdisk /mbr to repair

I’m inheriting a PC in a few days, but it’s seen a lot of use over the past few years, and is packed with software I don’t need or want. I have a copy of Microsoft Office on CD to install, and everything else I need I can download from the internet.

So I want to know if there’s a program I can download or a method I can use to wipe everything out of this old PC’s storage space.

I’ve done some searching, and most of the tutorials I’ve found are all concerned with wiping drives that you’re going to get rid of afterward, to prevent data theft at a later point in time. But I’m still going to be using this hard drive after the wipe. I’m just looking to get a completely clean start.

it’s an older win98 computer and I want to disassemble the hard drive and scratch it somehow. Will that work? I want to make sure all the data is wiped clean and no chance of recovery. I know I could use a sledgehammer but am looking for a house friendly way of destroy it.

This is still unsupported.” to fix, type: mklabel msdos You should then see: “Warning: The existing disk label on /dev/block/mmcblk0 will be destroyed and all data on this disk will be lost.
